They called themselves Nytes, but she liked to think they were no more than self-righteous monsters.
A mere human in a world of monstrous and powerful Nytes, Evangeline Ardonis couldn’t care less if she is liked or not. With no recollection of her past and a mysterious marking on her hand, she has always stood out from other humans, who are forced to work as slaves for the kingdom of Peredia and the beautiful winged Nytes that rule it—the Aerians.
The youngest prince of Peredia and bastard son of the queen, Ceven LuRogue, has had his fair share of scorn from both his former father and the royal court that once loved him. Sent away by the king, for risk of a scandal, Ceven spends two years overseas. When he returns to discover that humans are going missing and that his childhood friend, Evangeline, is a suspect, he fights to protect her, but a thread of doubt remains: Is she innocent?
As the kingdom becomes increasingly dangerous, all Evangeline wants to do is protect her friends, but when she gets caught up in a treacherous family conspiracy, she will have to face her unknown past and choose who to trust to protect those she cares about the most—or risk losing both her friends and her sanity.
After her friend is taken by the kingdom’s most notorious torturer, Evangeline Ardonis vows to do whatever it takes to get her back. Even if that means working with the same Caster assassin who had tricked her into murder or confronting the dangers lurking in the forbidden west wing. But as she faces the castle’s worst monsters, Evangeline finds she has a taste for violence—and something darker.
Torn with guilt and indecision, Ceven LuRogue is forced to choose: betray his best friend or protect the woman he loves. But to save them both, he’ll first need help from the person he despises the most, his brother. No matter how strong or clever Ceven believes himself to be, Sehn LuRogue is always two steps ahead of him and with his and Evangeline’s lives at stake, Ceven will have to outwit him or die trying.
Evangeline and Ceven prepare for the worst as whispers of war and a magical disease sweep through the kingdom. Separated, they fight to save each other, but will they make it out alive when the entire kingdom turns against them?
After escaping the kingdom, Evangeline Ardonis once again confronts death—in a trial to fight for her innocence in front of the Atiacan empire—but after running into someone from her past, her criminal reputation is the least of her concerns. As the truth behind the missing persons and Evangeline’s mark unravels, Evangeline fights with herself over the desire to learn more about her past or to protect the citizens of Atiaca. Wrangling with the newfound beast that now co-exists inside of her, she also scrambles for self-control and to protect her dark secret from the one she loves.
Now labeled as a traitor prince, Ceven LuRogue fends off assassins and enemies at every turn. He vowed to protect Evangeline, even if it means turning his friends and potential allies against him, but when faced with the promise of taking back the very country that shunned him, will he still risk losing what few allies he has? And will he be able to protect Evangeline, even against herself?
War is looming on the horizon, instigated not only by the newfound king of Peredia but also by something far darker lurking within the hearts of both countries’ citizens. When truths are revealed and innocent lives are at stake, Ceven and Evangeline’s bond will be put to the test as they face the worst of what’s to come.
